The Quality of Mercy

2012, 16' x 5' x 6' | 4.87 x 1.52 x 1.83m, Post-consumer plastic (PET bottles), aluminum hardware, tinted polycrylic, solar-powered (optional) fiber-optics, illuminator, stainless steel aircraft cable.

The raw material for this sculpture was collected by two non-profit river clean-up organizations in Columbus, Ohio, (FACT + FLOW). The bottles were then cleaned, sculpted, assembled using aluminum hardware, and then airbrushed. The final step was integrating the fiber optics and setting a lighting program for the sculpture. The Quality of Mercy slowly transitions from pink, white, yellow, orange, and red, then back to pink again. This piece was done on site during a month-long residency at Franklin Park with support from students at the Columbus College of Art and Design and a small studio team.

*The Quality of Mercy is available for purchase, with profits going to FACT + FLOW to continue and expand their environmental stewardship efforts.
