Belch (aka Tarball)

2009, Approx. 12' x 12' x 12' | 3.66 x 3.66 x 3.66 m, Post-industrial plastic, hardware, tinted polycrylic

The fact that the primary ingredient in plastic is petroleum and that it is a byproduct of the fossil fuel industry was in the front of my mind when I was creating this piece. I was also thinking a lot about what you try to bury or throw away coming back to haunt you and the famous Carl Jung quote; “...what you resist not only persists, but will grow in size” and how this applies to our global collective plastic pollution nightmare.
