Atomista
2017, 7' x 7' x 11 1/2' | 2.13 x 2.13 x 3.50m, Injection welded post-indust plastic, paint, hardware,
Part of the Collection of the NYC Department of Education, Public Art for Public Schools, Atomista was commissioned for permanent display in a new lobby space at P.S. 50 Talfourd Lawn Elementary School in Jamaica, Queens, NY. Made from welded post-industrial plastic (UV stabilized HDPE) and other smaller post-consumer plastic materials, Atomista is intended to express freedom from the laws of physics. In space, there is no above or below, just as in creative inquiry, which offers a form of freedom. This piece could not have been made without help from my artist collaborator husband Marshall Coles.
